Security...

So last night we had a mini-crisis in our family. My three year old son, Brennan, lost his security...namely, his blanket (Babba). It was bedtime before I realized Babba was missing...we scoured the house, looked high and low, in the car, behind the couches, outside, everywhere...but no Babba. After re-tracing the day along with his last known whereabouts, we guessed that Babba had been lost at our public library, but alas, the library was closed and it was bedtime. Brennan did ok until about 4:00AM when Mama had to sleep with him for the rest of the night...because Brennan really missed Babba. This morning, Babba indeed was found at the library and all is well again in our son's world (and truthfully, in Mommy and Daddy's world too).

This whole episode got me thinking again, and served as a great reminder...where is your security? Where is your trust? Who or what is your "Babba?"

Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
   my Savior and my God.
- Psalm 42:11

I think you know where I'm going with this post...the application is simple. There is only one thing in all of creation that will never fail us, one person to be more exact...Jesus Christ, our Savior. Everything else is smoke and mirrors...everything else is "chasing shadows."

This also got me thinking, is there something in my life like "Babba" that if I suddenly lost it, I'd be a wreck? Do I feel that passionately about my relationship with Christ?

There's nothing to feel bad about, just a call for all of us to remember that there is ultimately only 1 security. If everything and everyone fails, if you lose all you have, there is one who will never fail.

God is our refuge and strength,
   an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
God is within her, she will not fall;
- Psalm 46:1-5
